Someone paid US$19M for a steak lunch with Warren Buffet

There is no free lunch.

A record-breaking US$19million was paid by an anonymous bidder for a private steak dinner with Warren Buffet. This sale was part 21st annual auction for lunch with Buffet. It was held in collaboration with eBay, the Glide Foundation, a San Francisco non-profit that works to end poverty, hunger, homelessness, and other social problems.

According to an eBay news release on Friday, the bidding started at $25,000 on June 12th and ended at $19,000,100 from an unknown bidder on Friday. This year’s enormous sum is more than four-times the winning bid of $4,567.888 in 2019, the last auction before a hiatus because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Justin Sun, cryptocurrency entrepreneur was the 2019 winner.

The mystery winner will enjoy a private lunch with Buffet and up to seven guests at Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse in New York City, says eBay.

Unfortunately, for investors looking to break the record, this year’s “power lunch” with Buffet is over. Glide has raised more than $53 million through its annual auction.

“On behalf GLIDE, and all those we serve, Warren Buffett, I thank you for your unwavering generosity, partnership, and dedication, and for your incredible contribution to our mission.” saidIn the news release, Karen Hanrahan, CEO and president of the organization.

In 2000, Susie Buffet started the auction. The auction has been managed by eBay since 2003.

“We are incredibly proud Warren Buffett’s final Power Lunch broke our all time record for funds raised. All proceeds support GLIDE’s efforts to create pathways outof crisis and transform lives.” saidJamie Iannone, CEO of eBay, in the release
