Ukraine mall strike caught on CCTV from nearby park | Ukraine
Shocking CCTV footage has emerged of people spending a summer’s day at a peaceful park suddenly running for their lives after a Russian cruise missile strike on a nearby mall sent debris flying into the air.
These CCTV images were taken in a park near Kremenchuk’s shopping centre. The attack claimed at least 18 lives, prompting a long search for survivors and bodies in the rubble.
The camera shakes from the blast explosion in one shot. This video has been shared on social networks. An ominous dark shadow is then seen to grow across the park’s lawn and pond as, off-camera, smoke rises above the building. The blast causes debris to be thrown into shot, with some parts splashing in the water.
Another clip shows them running after the strike hit behind them. One of them jumps over a fence to get into the pond.
Another segment of footage shows the explosion in the background. A man rushes to carry a small child out of the water and hides behind a tree. The video shows smoke rising near the shopping center before the main explosion. The attack involved two missiles.
Another view shows birds on a pagoda at the center of the pond scattering as the explosion hits. People run across a bridge to safety.
Since its latest invasion of Ukraine, on 24 February, Russia has repeatedly denied that it targeted civilians. On Tuesday the Russian Ministry of Defence, without providing any evidence, issued a statement claiming that the shopping centre in Kremenchuk was “non-functional”, and that the fire had been caused by the “detonation of stored ammunition for western weapons”.
Ukrainian police set up a table in front of the centre to display fragments of what they believe were Russian X-22 cruise rockets that were found inside the shopping center.
