Spider monkey with ‘Batman’ markings born at Florida zoo

“The Batman Returns” — at Florida’s zoo.

In a blog post, the Brevard Zoo, Melbourne, Florida announced that a spider monkey was born. The spider monkey is not your average spider monkey. This baby bears a distinctive marking, the “Batman” symbol on the nose.

“Bat-Signal” is a symbol of a bat that extends its wings and is used throughout DC Comics to summon Batman.

The baby, which was distinctively marked, was born to a 31-year old female Rochelle on April 15th to a 25-year-old male Shooter.

The zoo wrote that the youngling was doing well. “The youngling is holding on to mom and nursing with success,” It is unknown what the young monkey does with sex. The zoo stated that Rochelle is a skilled mother and that the other spider monkey troop members have checked in on Rochelle and her child.

According to the World Wildlife Fund black spider monkeys can be found all over eastern South America and are “vulnerable to extinction”. Their numbers have declined as a result of hunting and the destruction of tropical forests.

The Brevard Zoo says that every Zoo birth is a safeguard from the loss of these species in their natural habitat.
