Warriors coach Steve Kerr out with COVID-19

Steve Kerr, Warriors’ coach, tested positive for COVID-19 at his home on Monday night. Mike Brown will take over as associate head coach for Golden State in Game 4, against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Kerr, 56, was wearing a mask to team headquarters in recent days.

The Warriors saidKerr just received his result about an hour and forty-five minutes before tipoff at Chase Center. Brown, who agreed to coach the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, will remain with the Warriors for their post-season run.

“Obviously Steve Kerr has caught COVID. Just wanted to wish him all the best. Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said, “Hope he gets well very soon. Rest up.” said. “COVID’s rampant in the world at the moment, so I just want him to be doing well. It’s unfortunate timing, but I hope his spirits are high. Just wanted to send him a kind note.

Former Cavaliers and Lakers coach Brown has stepped in on several occasions for close friend Kerr — with experience coaching the playoffs. He led the Warriors through the post-season games in 2017’s title run, while Kerr was ill with back complications. Kerr was back for Game 2 in the NBA Finals.

Brown, 52, was instrumental in helping LeBron James and Cleveland reach 2007 NBA Finals. However, they were swept by Spurs. After winning 127 of the previous two seasons but not making it back to the finals, Brown was fired in 2010.

After missing a year, Brown was replaced by Phil Jackson with the Lakers. He didn’t enjoy the same success in Cleveland as he did in Cleveland. He was fired after the Lakers finished 41-25 his first season. The Lakers were 1-4 his second season.

Brown was back in Cleveland the next season, going 33-49. He was fired after just one season.
