Tellez hits 2 homers against former team as Brewers top Blue Jays

Rowdy Tellez hit two home runs against his former team, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to victory over the Toronto Blue Jays by 10-3 on Sunday.

Milwaukee took two out of three in the series between teams that met for the first-time since 2017.

Tellez was traded from Toronto last July to the Brewers and homered in the first innings. He then scored in the second for his thirteenth home run.

Milwaukee scored five runs in the second. Tyrone Taylor opened the game with a double. Jace Peterson followed with a perfectly executed drag-batter and Jonathan Davis had an infield hit that brought in a run.

Christian Yelich had a RBI grounder and Tellez hit another homer off Jose Berrios (5-4), driving the pitch over the right-field wall. The Brewers led 8-3 with the drive. A crowd of over 35,000 stood and chanted Tellez’s Name.

Tellez has two multihomer games this season, and seven throughout his career.

Jandel Gustave (1-0), pitched two scoreless innings to win relief of Chi Chi Gonzalez. After the first inning, Toronto was held scoreless against Gonzalez and four Milwaukee relief pitchers.

Alejandro Kirk hit three runs in the Toronto first. Milwaukee won the bottom-half game when Tellez hit a homer. Omar Narvaez added a run scoring double later in the inning.

Gonzalez, in his second start for the Brewers gave up four hits as well as three runs in just four innings.

Berrios allowed eight hits, a season-high of eight runs, in 2 1/3 innings. In his previous start against the Chicago White Sox, Berrios gave up six runs in four innings.

After three consecutive games of right elbow discomfort, George Springer from Toronto was back in the starting lineup.
