Roughriders overtake Elks in 4th quarter to improve to 2-0
Mitchell Picton’s fourth quarter touchdown catch was the difference Saturday as Saskatchewan Roughriders won 26-16 over Edmonton Elks.
After defeating Hamilton in their first game of the CFL, the Roughriders are now at 2-0.
After losing 59-15 in the first game against the B.C., the Elks are now 0-2 Lions, who have now gone nine games without a victory at home. Edmonton was 0-7 at Commonwealth Stadium last season.
Edmonton was minus-one yards in offense in the first quarter.
The second half was not completed until Lauther’s 18-yard field goal.
After Edmonton’s Matt Thomas had recovered a fumble at the Saskatchewan 23 field goal, quarterback Nick Arbuckle found Kenny Lawler and completed a five-yard touchdown pass. This put the Elks up 7-6 with just three minutes remaining in the second half.
