Retirement looms for Fury in homecoming fight against Whyte

Tyson Fury talks so much about boxing during fight week it’s difficult to decide which details to ignore and which to pay attention to from one the most colorful and controversial fighters in the sport.
But, the world champion heavyweight is consistent on one thing. His title defense against Dillian Howte on Saturday will be his last fight before he retires.
“I am getting out in one piece and healthy. The self-described “Gypsy King” is undefeated said.
“Tune in right now, because you won’t ever see big GKs’ in action after this. This is it.
If this is it, and Fury is 33 years old and has made more money than ever before in boxing’s marquee division, then it is a great way to go.
An all-British boxing fight was staged at Wembley Stadium in London before more than 94,000 spectators. It was the largest-ever boxing bout held on British shores.
The occasion would have been even more grand if Anthony Joshua, Britain’s other major heavyweight player, had been the opponent. Even though the Whyte fight was the most expensive in boxing history, the purse bid of $41million for it would have made the money more substantial.
Fury however seems content with his lot.
This week, he was present at what was called a “staredown” between Brits. They went head-tohead for the first times in what has been a relatively low-key buildup.
After a few seconds Fury decided to touch Whyte’s ribs and then gave his former sparring partner, the earnest of handshakes.
But don’t make any mistake. Fury will be a serious issue on Saturday night, when he takes on Deontay wilder in a fight that is not on his own soil since 2018. This will be for his WBC belt defense.
Fury (31-0-1), 22 KOs. “If my A game isn’t up, then that man’s gonna knock my head right off of my shoulders.” said.
“I’m going have to be on form and he will have the ability to beat me. He is definitely a man who needs respect, and that’s what he has received from me.”
Fury’s fame grew over his trilogy with Wilder in America. He demonstrated he could box both on the front and back foot, had strong chin and as much speed and agility in his feet than he had with his big punches.
Whyte, who is 28-2, 19KOs) should be too much for Fury. He is a stocky build and loves turning fights into slugfests. His energy-sapping body punches can turn fights into slugfests. Fury, who hails from an Irish-Gypsy family and is a descendant of bare-knuckle champs, is undoubtedly the more skilled of the two boxers.
The question is still open as to whether Fury has become distracted by the scandal surrounding his connections to Daniel Kinahan, a leader of an organized criminal gang. A $5 million reward was offered by U.S. Treasury Department to anyone who can help in its destruction or arrest.
Fury was only irritable this week when Kinahan was being questioned in front of the media.
The Fury has always been bigger than life, laughing, telling stories, and praising himself as the greatest heavyweight his generation. He recalled spending time at the local golf course in northwest England to practice his right hand. “Putting my shoulder into the shot, driving it through,” he said. He is proud of how he has overcome mental health issues and drug addiction to be the No. 1 heavyweight, and at one point or another, the holder each of the belts in this division.
“I have nothing to do,” he said. said.
His own story is memorable, however. It involves Whyte being drawn into London’s gang culture as a young man following his Jamaican move to Britain. He was also briefly in prison and then suspended from boxing for two years after testing positive for banned stimulants.
He was so frustrated at being overlooked for a chance at the title of world heavyweight champion, despite being a mandatory challenger to it, that he wondered when his time would come.
Except for the boxing community in Britain, Whyte is not well-known. This is his chance to make a name, and Fury will soon retire.
Whyte said, “It is victory by all means necessary.” said. “I don’t fear taking risks. I’ve been taking risks all my life so it’s not something new. I’m ready and willing to rock and roll.”
