Panthers win 10th straight, inch closer to NHL-leading Avalanche

Anton Lundell scored two goals and the Florida Panthers increased their winning streak by 10 games, beating the Detroit Red Wings 6-1 on Sunday in Detroit.

Andrew Brunette, Panthers coach: “I didn’t even know this was 10, but it has been a really enjoyable game in the last three to four games.” said. “We are doing the right thing and we bring our best every night. We’ll be successful when we do this.”

Maxim Mamin (Maxim Mamin), Anthony Duclair, Sam Reinhart and Gustav Forsling all scored for the Panthers. This was their 22nd consecutive road win. Spencer Knight had 33 saves.

Pius Suter scored while Alex Nedeljkovic saved 33 shots for the Red Wings. The Red Wings have allowed six or more goals this season for the 14th straight time.

Duclair ended the scoreless tie at 5 :02 in second period. His shot from right faceoff beat Nedeljkovic and he increased his career high with his 31st season goal.

Reinhart made it two minutes later, scoring his 28th goal of season. His streak now stands at six games.

Lundell scored at 14:23 in the second. Mamin was 28 seconds later to give Mamin a 4-0 lead.

Red Wings coach Jeffblashill said, “Against this opponent you either need to be perfect or score. And we weren’t perfect and didn’t score so that’s 4-0.” said.

Reinhart assisted Lundell on Lundell’s goal. He now has four goals and seven assists during this point streak.

Even though he was short-handed, Lundell scored the second goal of the match in the third period with a stunning drop pass from Aleksander Barrkov.

Lundell: “I was trying to keep up with his pace, but he clearly has eyes in front of his head because he dropped the stick right on my stick,” Lundell said.

Brunette said: “He is a world-class player, making incredible plays every single day, so we get kinda spoiled by him but that was fantastic.”

Detroit’s goal was scored by Suter at 12:04 on the third. At 13:14, Forsling scored his ninth goal of the season.

Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said, “They got two quicks, three quicks and we didn’t respond, they didn’t get back to us, we didn’t get back at them.” said. It doesn’t help if you have to give up a short-handed goal. You have a chance at putting one on the boards. We had a great start, Ned played very well, but then they scored and we didn’t respond.

The Panthers also increased their goal record to 314, which is the highest in the NHL this season.

Lundell: “The best thing about having four lines who can score is that one or two of them need to step up and make play to get us moving.” said. “It’s a lot fun when that happens because we know we have the ability to score a lot in no time.

Streak ends

Jonathan Huberdeau ended his points streak after only 13 games. In that time, he had 11 goals as well as 13 assists.

Roster changes

Under emergency circumstances, the Red Wings called in Riley Barber, right-winger of the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins. They also assigned Chase Pearson as the Griffins’ center.

Milestone

Red Wings and Panthers honored Brian Pochmara, referee, for his 1,000th match. Pochmara was a Detroit native who received signed jerseys from both sides and a Tiffany crystal.
