Maple Leafs’ Simmonds, Clifford fined for actions against Lightning

Wayne Simmonds, Toronto Maple Leafs forward, and Kyle Clifford, Tampa Bay Lightning’s forward, were both fined for their actions in the third period of Thursday night’s 8-1 defeat to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Simmonds was convicted for Mikhail Sergachev charges. Clifford was dragged because he was high-sticking Corey Perry.
The fines totalling a combined $4,750 US — the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement — go to the players’ emergency assistance fund.
With four remaining games, the Leafs are almost certain to finish second in the Atlantic Division. They were at 11-1-1 before Thursday’s defeat by the Stanley Cup champions.
On Saturday, Toronto hosts the league-leading Florida Panthers.
