Manoah sets tone as Blue Jays defeat Red Sox for 5th straight win
Alek Manoah, Toronto Blue Jays’ all-star pitcher, pitched six strong innings. The Blue Jays relied more heavily on their arm than their bats in order to maintain their season-long dominance over the Red Sox. They beat host Boston 4-1 Saturday.
Boston lost for the eighth consecutive time in nine games. Red Sox fans were sure to get a cheer on Sunday, however, when former slugger David Ortiz was inducted into the Hall of Fame — plenty of them headed to Cooperstown, New York, to see Big Papi enshrined.
Manoah (11-4), allowing one run, on Bobby Dalbec’s homer in the second that cleared all left field in the third, and seven hits. His ERA was 2.24. He walked none and struck out seven.

After completing his outing with three consecutive strikeouts, Manoah yelled at the Boston bench. To kick off that late flourish, he fanned fellow star Xander Bogaerts.
Jordan Romano pitched an inning without scoring ninth for his 21st league save.

Toronto had seven hits per day, after getting 29 runs. This brings Toronto’s total to 9-3 against Red Sox. Boston is now 3 1/2 games ahead, and the Blue Jays hold the final wild card spot in Major League Baseball.
The Blue Jays teed off at Fenway Park the night before and managed a three-run third run off rookie Kutter Crawford (2-3). Santiago Espinal and George Springer both scored RBI singles, while Alejandro Kirk sacrificed a fly.
