Kelowna, B.C., woman sets Canadian course record at Boston Marathon

Malindi Elmore from Kelowna, B.C. was an Olympian and mother who finished in 11th place for women at the Boston Marathon Monday.
She set a Canadian course record of 2:27.58 for professional women. This was a poignant achievement, she said, as it was the 50th anniversary that women were allowed to compete. The world’s oldest race, the first race, was created in 1897.
Elmore said that she has never experienced anything similar.
“The crowds were electric. There were 26 miles of cheering people who walked the entire distance. CTV News spoke of her excitement at being a part of the legendary race.
“There are 30,000 participants. It’s a tough course. It is a continuous course of ups and downwards. It was one those days when I had to really dig deep in order to achieve the performance I achieved.
Elmore said she had to sprint four seconds to get to the finish line to beat the runner behind her.
“I ran about as fast as my legs would allow me to at that point. She said that they were very sore and tired from the hilly course. “Your quads are just shot.” said.
“I was motivated just to beat the clock in a given time. But, I would not have liked to be passed in 100m.”
Elmore has been twice to the Olympics, placing ninth in Tokyo’s marathon in 2021. She was 32nd in the 1500m at the Games her previous visit.
