Milwaukee was one of many U.S. towns that experienced record-breaking numbers of murders in 2021. The majority of these killings were guns. This list also includes Indianapolis, Philadelphia, and other cities.
Experts believe that stress and the pressures created by the COVID-19 epidemic contributed to the violence. Johnson blamed the ease of access to guns.
Johnson said that the central problem lies in the fact that people can easily obtain guns. said. This is not a Milwaukee problem. We’ve seen an increase in fatal and non-fatal shootings across the country.
Out of the 193 Milwaukee killings in 2021 there were 180 that were committed with firearms. Police data shows that another 873 people were shot and wounded.
The pace is even faster this year. Milwaukee already has 77 deaths, which is a 40% increase over the 2021 equivalent. This year, there have been 264 non-fatal shootings. That’s two more than the number recorded a year ago.
O’Kane saidHe worries about Milwaukee’s future.
“Are we going back to another game, if the win is ours?” Yes, I’m still going Bucks games. But will we be going out to party afterward? There is no way.
