Baltimore Ravens re-sign DE Calais Campbell to 2-year, $12.5M contract

OWINGS MILLS (Md. The Baltimore Ravens announced Saturday that Calais Campbell, a former defensive end in the Pro Bowl, will be returning to Baltimore on a two year deal.
Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Campbell’s contract is worth $12.5million, but could be worth as much as $16.5million with incentives.
Campbell, 35, decided that he would return to the NFL for his 15th season after briefly considering retiring. He said that he still wants to play football after watching the Los Angeles Rams win their championship. After two seasons in Baltimore, Campbell now has the opportunity to end his career and try to win the elusive Super Bowl Ring.
The Ravens have addressed two areas of need over the past two-days while strengthening their leadership in defense. On Friday, Josh Bynes was back as a middle linebacker and Campbell was kept on Saturday.
Tony Jefferson II and Ravens Lamar Jackson took to Twitter to express their dismay at Campbell’s return.

Campbell is a six-time Pro Bowler and is well-known for his ability to get to quarterbacks. In his two seasons with Baltimore, Campbell was more of a pass-rusher than a run-stopper. He managed 4.5 sacks last season, and 1.5 this year.
Campbell’s inability to stay healthy has been a problem with the Ravens. Campbell missed six of his 25 previous games with Baltimore after his streak of 98 consecutive starts ended.
He is one among four NFL defenders who have recorded at least 700 tackles, and 85 sacks, since 2000. His career sacks of 93.5 are 10th among active players. His 773 career tackles rank 12th.
Campbell is still searching for the first Super Bowl title after six trips to playoffs. Campbell was drafted in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2008. He also played nine seasons with Jacksonville Jaguars. In March 2020, he was traded to Baltimore for a fifth-rounder.
