These are the most expensive Canadian cities to rent a home

According to Zumper, a report on the Canadian rental market that was published last Wednesday shows a dramatic increase in rental prices.
A majority of Canadian cities (60%) experienced double-digit rent price increases year-over–year, with average rents in Vancouver, Toronto, and Victoria at over $1,800 per monthly for a one bedroom apartment in June.
The average monthly rent in Toronto for a one-bedroom apartment is $2,000, while the average rent for a two-bedroom apartment is $2,630.
But it gets even worse in Vancouver, where a one-bedroom rental has inched higher towards $2,240, and a two-bedroom unit averages over $3,300, reinforcing Vancouver’s reputation of being the most expensive Canadian city to live in.
Yet, that’s not to say cities besides Vancouver and Toronto are much more affordable. Burnaby, B.C. Burnaby, B.C. is ranked third for renting a one-bedroom unit. Despite a decrease in rent prices of 4.9 Percent, they still charge $1,960 per bedroom and $2,610 each for two-bedrooms.
Barrie, Ont. Rents for a 1-bedroom apartment topped $1,760. Despite a decrease of almost five percent since last year, rents for two-bedroom units remain at $1,940.
According to the data, Kelowna, B.C., one of the most expensive city’s in Canada’s housing market, experienced a 2.8 per cent drop in rental costs, bringing the one-bedroom average to $1,750.
St. Catharines, Ont. A similar decrease of two per cent was seen in St. Catharines (Ont.), with an average price for a 1-bedroom apartment at $1,470. This downward trend was also seen in Saskatoon, where the average rental cost dropped by one percent to $990 for a 1-bedroom unit.
Zumper claims that many Canadian renters have begun to look for their next apartment as a result of many leases ending in the spring and summer.
