Elon Musk’s The Boring Company now valued at nearly US$5.7 billion

The Boring Company is Elon Musk’s attempt to beat traffic by placing Teslas in tunnels. It has raised US$675 Million, which it intends to use to expand its Loop projects.
Wednesday’s announcement of new funding for The Boring company came from both real estate and venture capital companies. Vy Capital was co-led by Sequoia. Vy Capital is a prominent Silicon Valley company that has previously invested in Musk. The Boring Company is valued at almost US$5.7 billion.
Loop is a mostly Underground transportation system offering point-to-point travel between stations, where Tesla SUVs are rented. The One Loop system operates in Las Vegas, with two stations located about one mile from the Las Vegas Convention Center. The system is being expanded to include 51 stations along the Vegas Strip.
The Boring Company has also announced a project for Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is currently in discussions with San Antonio, Texas. It has announced previously in Chicago, Washington DC, Los Angeles and other cities, but it has yet to finish them. It was sued by angry Los Angeles neighbors and lost favor after Chicago elected a new mayor. It has not received permits for the DC to Baltimore project which dates back to 2017.
CNN Business was informed Thursday by Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis that “we’re still very excited, and want to go forward.”
He saidThe government has partnered with Boring Company to address engineering concerns regarding the project. It would connect downtown with a beach nearby. They are working together to align the route along a right of passage that the city has better control. He refused to give a date.
Critics have raised concerns about whether operating a subway system using cars and trains rather than trains is efficient use of tunnels. These tunnels can be as expensive as US$1 million per mile. Boring Company claims it is developing cheaper tunneling technology and that its system is better than traditional subway systems. It claims trips will be direct and not stop at stations. They could be. slowed by tunnel traffic They are always ahead.
Musk, Tesla’s CEO, had previously envisioned a grander vision for the Boring company, where people would be driven through cities in autonomous vehicles capable of traveling at speeds of up to 120 mph. However, the reality has been that human drivers have operated standard Teslas at 35 mph in Las Vegas.
Boring Company says that it still plans to transition to fully autonomous operations in the future, which will reduce costs.
Sequoia saidIn a blog post, the Boring Company stated that it is at an “inflection moment.”
It stated that “The next few decades are about 10x” performance because their systems can be quickly reusable, fully autonomous, and in a scalable manner.
Boring Company’s next generation tunnel digging machine can be operated remotely and autonomously without the assistance of anyone. Prufrock, the current version, can dig up a mile per day. It is crucial to reduce costs by digging tunnels more quickly.
Boring Company saidIt also plans to construct utility and freight tunnels. It did not respond when we asked for comments.
