Amazon not adding crypto as payment option anytime soon, CEO says

Andy Jassy, Chief Executive Officer at Amazon.com Inc saidCNBC interviewed the company on Thursday to find out if it is considering adding cryptocurrency to its retail business.

He also said it might be possible to sell non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on its e-commerce platform and expects NFTs to continue to grow “significantly.”

NFTs, which are digital assets that exist on a Blockchain, have seen a surge in popularity. NFT artworks were selling for millions.

Virtual currencies are being accepted by increasing numbers of businesses, which brings an asset class that was shunned until recently by major financial institutions closer to mainstream acceptance.

eBay Inc., which was the first e-commerce platform to allow the sale of NFTs last year, was the first company to do so.

EBay also had saidIt was open to accepting cryptocurrency as a payment method in the future.
