Airbnb is rolling out new screening tools to stop parties

SAN FRANCISCO –
Airbnb promises to develop new ways to block and spot people who use its short-term rental service to host parties.
The company said It has added technology to analyze the renter’s past on Airbnb. This includes where they live and whether they rent for a weekday or weekends.
Airbnb said It is currently testing the screening system in Australia for listing in the United States and Canada. The results were impressive in Australia where they have seen a 35% decrease in illegal parties.
The San Francisco-based company said The technology is intended to stop a customer’s request to reserve a property from reaching its host. Airbnb said A host might allow people to rent one room in a home that is not available for rental.
Airbnb is under increasing pressure to stop parties since 2019, when five people were killed in a shooting at a Halloween party hosted in a San Francisco suburb.
Airbnb announced that it would ban all parties from its listings. People under 25 could not rent a house close to their home without a history of positive reviews. Although initially intended to be temporary in the wake of the pandemics, the ban became permanent in June.
