OLED MacBook Air and iPad Pro planned for 2024, report says

Apple intends to advance its display technology in 2024. According to a new analyst report, Apple plans to further advance its display technology as soon as 2024. Ross Young, it is “looking increasingly likely” that Apple will release a MacBook with an OLED display sometime in 2024. The company is also working on iPad Pro models that have OLED displays.

Young claims that the OLED MacBook will be a MacBook Air. However, that could change as we get closer to 2024.
It is looking increasingly likely that Apple will launch a 13.3″ OLED notebook in 2024 in addition to the 11″ OLED and 12.9″ iPad Pro’s. It is expected that it will be a MacBook Air. However, it could become a MacBook Pro or a new category.
The analyst adds that the OLED iPad Pro and MacBook Air will use display technology referred to as “tandem stack,” which will increase brightness, improve the longevity of the display, and reduce power consumption by around 30%. Apple’s OLED displays will likely have variable refresh rates displays to improve efficiency.
As we’ve explained in the past, the current mini-LED tech used by Apple is an alternative to OLED. It’s better in certain ways, and worse in other. Mini-LED screens are made of thousands of tiny LEDs that are arranged in multiple dimming areas. Although mini-LED displays can achieve higher brightness than OLED displays local dimming is not as accurate as OLED. OLED displays also experience burn-in.
Apple is also investing heavily in microLED technology. This would bring together the best of OLED and mini-LED displays. OLED displays are similar to micro-LEDs, but they have a higher brightness and require less burn-in.
