Canada awarded 2023 women’s hockey worlds, U.S. to host in ’24

Canada will host 2023’s women’s hockey world championship.

In its Monday “Ice Times”, newsletter, the IIHF announced that the International Ice Hockey Federation had awarded the next-year’s tournament to Canada and 2024 championship to the United States.

The exact dates and locations of the event are yet to be announced.

The 2022 women’s championship — the first to be held in the same calendar year as an Olympic Games — is Aug. 25 to Sept. 4 in Herning and Frederikshavn, Denmark.

Canada’s defending champion is currently in Calgary for a training camp and selection camp.

After the April tournament in Nova Scotia was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Calgary became the host city for the 2021 women’s championship.

Truro, N.S. and Halifax were the hosts of the 2020 championship, which was also cancelled by the pandemic.
